Colorful leaves, a cool breeze, and a cozy sunset—fall is the perfect season to spice up your space and entertain family and friends outside! Join author, DIY-er and interior designer Liz Marie Galvan as she shares her top tips to host a cozy outdoor party this autumn.

Seasonal Seating Solved!

Quality seating is essential for any backyard bash. Comfy chairs or benches help create an inviting social space where people can relax and enjoy the season in style. For a cozy, kid-friendly vibe, spread out a large picnic blanket on the lawn as well. Complete the setup with cushions and pillows to combine comfort and style.

Warm, Cozy Memories

Mild evenings are a welcome relief after a hot summer, but the temperature can cool quickly after sunset! Integrate unobtrusive storage solutions into your space so you can keep an extra blanket or sweatshirt close at hand in case you or your guests get chilly (hidden in-seat storage compartments are one great way to save some space!).

Still shivering a little? Turn up the heat with a fire pit as your event’s centerpiece. It’s perfect for melting marshmallows, warming hands, or keeping the party crackling after sundown!

Snacks Galore!

If you have a fire pit, try cooking up a homecooked meal! Hotdogs and kebabs are a great place to start. Finger food is also a natural fit for relaxed, outdoor entertaining. Think chicken fingers, veggie and fruit trays, popcorn, and more! Finish the meal off with some classic marshmallows and s’mores to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Last but certainly not least, prepare some tasty fall drinks. No matter what, remember this is a fall party so don’t forget the apple cider!

Be Daring with Your Decorations!

Take your party to the next level with some stylish seasonal decor! For starters, use tablecloths, bandanas, or blankets to define a classic autumn color scheme of burnt oranges, soft browns, and vibrant yellows. Buy or craft medallions, pinwheels, and other paper decorations to carry those colors even further. Create a centerpiece from fresh flowers before winter sets in. You can even set up lawn games like ring toss or ladder ball in your chosen hues.

Weave string lights along awnings or between trees for a cozy, homemade vibe. Light candles—even better if the jars match your other decorations!
